The Mac OS has come a long way in the past couple of years from being the platform of choice for the artistic community to being an excellent, if not the best, alternative for business users as well. One of the missing pieces is a robust, scalable and manageable relational database engine. One with wide support of common standards, easy to use tools, and extremely wide 3rd party support. That is not to say there aren't offerings currently on the market, there are, but none of them have the recognition and pricing of PostgreSQL.
PostgreSQL is free. As are our tools that we have built on top of them. What you find here is free for download and use. PostgreSQL itself is not only free, but if you wish, you may goto the PostgeSQL Web Site download the source code and build it yourself. As of the 8.0.1b release, our tools are also under a BSD license, and are free for use. Part of this license change coincides with a move of the source code to a new project on SourceForge.net at http://sourceforge.net/projects/pgsqlformac/. This move has been made to enable a broader base and hopefully wider acceptance of PostgreSQL in the Mac community. We will be the first to admit that this generates no revenue for us, but we do hope that if you find them useful you will take a few moments to make a donation in the sum that you feel is reasonable for the value you get out of our tools.
Our only request is that if you need some consulting services for your PostgreSQL installation and demands, please keep us in mind. |
