Alright, so internally we live on IRC to communicate. This is necessary for a number of reasons, not the least of which, on any given day there is only one person in the office with the rest of the staff at customer sites or traveling. This doesn't make communication easy by any means, but IRC is a nice way to stay in touch, without hollering across the office or the country. The problem is that the state of IRC clients is such that they have a nasty habit of sucking, and by sucking I mean really badly.
In the last few years, the Mac has gotten a couple of really interesting players in IRC, building in many ways on the foundation that Adium built for a good looking and flexible chat clients. Colloquy being the most well known of the group, it was the one we started with, but all of us have found it to be a little 'iffy' in terms of stability and features actually working. It was a couple of months ago that Linkinus was announced and released. After a brief test period, I bought a license, and I think a couple of the other guys are headed that way as well.
Unfortunately, I really wasn't thrilled by the default styles, so I decided to create one that better suited my style. What resulted is bland and simple. There are some things I expect to tweak on it as I really use it, but I figured, why not give it out.
A couple of comments though, the icons are placeholders until I find time to create the 12x12 images I would rather use. Second, the nick names could probably be colored a bit better, I'm undecided on that as yet. Overall, the style still needs some work, and so does the client itself, but it's holding up better than Colloquy did so we are giving it a 4 out of 5 star rating and adding it to the Stuff We Us list :-).
